Sony a7 IV

The Sony a7 IV for hire uses a 33-megapixel back-illuminated full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor paired with the BIONZ XR processor. This configuration is particularly well suited to hybrid workflows, combining high stills resolution with professional video specifications and good noise performance when working in less controlled lighting conditions.

For video, it records internally in 4K up to 60p with 10-bit 4:2:2 colour sampling. 4K 50/60p uses the Super 35mm image area, while frame rates up to 30p use approximately 7K oversampling from the full sensor width. This produces a highly detailed image without pixel binning. XAVC S, XAVC HS and XAVC S-I codecs allow operators to select the most appropriate balance between image quality, file size and post-production performance. S-Log3, S-Gamut3.Cine and S-Cinetone are also available, making it easier to integrate the A7 IV into productions using Sony Cinema Line cameras.

Fast Hybrid AF uses 759 phase-detection points and covers approximately 94% of the image area. Real-time Tracking and Eye AF can follow people, animals and birds during video recording. This is particularly useful for small crews, gimbal work and productions where a dedicated focus puller is not available.

The 5-axis in-body stabilisation system provides up to 5.5 stops of compensation and can be combined with Active Mode for handheld video shooting. The camera also includes video-specific tools such as Focus Map, AF Assist, Breathing Compensation with compatible lenses and in-camera proxy recording.

Two recording slots are available. The first supports SD UHS-I/II and CFexpress Type A cards, while the second accepts SD UHS-I/II media. This configuration supports simultaneous recording, relay recording and file separation between the two cards according to the required on-set workflow.

Despite its compact dimensions, the body includes full-size HDMI, USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, a 3″ vari-angle monitor and an OLED viewfinder with approximately 3.68 million dots. The A7 IV can also be used directly as a USB UVC/UAC camera, supporting streaming up to 4K 15p or Full HD 60p.
